THINKS YOU SHOULD REDUCE NOISE
POSTED BY DAN YOUNG
We are surrounded with noise. We get calls, texts, emails. We have Facebook, Twitter, Quara. There is TV, radio, YouTube. Combine it all and you have a drone of information, mostly irrelevant, to what we need to experience life.
Looking back on the World Mobile Congress, the technology that we will see in the next twelve months will greatly add to the background noise volume. Your mobile can connect to any service while outputting to a variety of devices. The smart phone you carry to stay connected will not connect you to everything, all the time. This can be simply overwhelming.
Having too much of this background noise is detrimental. Most people spend too much time tending to their social media accounts and emails to realize that they have become physically disconnected from their world and their communities. How often have you seen someone sitting at dinner, typing away, while the other person carries on a conversation? They are not living in the moment, they are not experiencing life.
Mobile technology can be a fantastic tool to connect people with each other and their ideas. It will also be a fantastic technology to filter the background noise, limiting the flow of information only to what a person needs in the context of what they are doing. Look to see new technologies in the future that allow users to establish preferences around what information they want, when they need it. The result will be new mobile tools to allow people to the freedom to choose when to disengage from their online worlds and return to experiencing the life around them.
