The Launch of UrgicodeThe first wireless code box systemIn partnership with Lakeshore Health Systems, DXY is proud to announce the launch of the world’s first wireless crash cart notification system. A crash cart kit is a package of medications used when a patient goes into cardiac arrest (a “code blue”). These packages of medications are either sealed in the drawer of a rolling cart or within a tackle box-like case. Traditionally these have been manually sealed and tracked; creating numerous issues with expired medications, tracking and location as well as usage data. Lakeshore Health Systems and DXY invented a patent-pending system that embeds a wireless device within these carts and kits. This device communicates with the Urgicode system, alerting pharmacy directors and technicians when a kit is used in the field or if a medication is about to expire.
Urgicode was launched last week in Tampa at a pharmacy director’s conference. As one director from Dallas commented, “this solves a huge nightmare for us.” You can learn more about the Urgicode system by visiting the site. Enhancing RealityAugmented reality and mobile technologyCombine a real-world environment with computer-generated information and you have what is known as “augmented reality.” Augmented reality, or AR, is the merging of the real-world and contextual information. Familiar examples are found on television, especially during sporting events. Computers recognize the location of the ball, foul line or first down markers. Graphics and text are then generated and superimposed over the real video of the event. Mobile technology is the next arena for AR. Combine GPS, accelerometers and cameras on a mobile device with contextual locational data and you have the ingredients for a rich AR experience. A Paris Metro Guide was the first AR application released for the iPhone. This application uses locational data and imagery captured through the iPhone’s camera to provide information on Paris businesses such as restaurants and cafés. No worries. Duke researchers have found a way to mimic GPS functionality with photo-acoustics to give mobile devices powerful navigational abilities indoors. A recent rumor says that Verizon is passing on the Pre when Palm's exclusive contract with Sprint expires in January. Citing poor sales, sources say that Verizon does not see the volume of sales needed to justify its inclusing into their network.
