The dxServerDXY’s mobile solutions system. We are pleased to officially announce the launch of the dxServer; the structure behind our mobile solutions. What makes the dxServer unique is that it is a “hosted” system, providing the power of mobility through a “Software as a Service” (SaaS) model. After configuring the solution, our clients pay a flat monthly fee which includes support, maintenance, updates and back-ups; it is a complete software solution package. A secondary benefit of the SaaS-based model is that we manage the computers, storage, routers and bandwidth supporting the dxServer and your mobile users. This alleviates the need to provision IT resources to support the system. IT can focus on what they do best while we focus untethering your business. We strived to produce a system that provides a flexible platform on which to custom-design robust, scalable mobile solutions. Today, we are pleased to formally share the news that we succeeded with the dxServer. Inside the dxServerThe technology under the hood. The dxServer is built on industry-standard Microsoft technologies. It provides the infrastructure to support a mobile workforce. Multiple mobile users, equipped with an iPhone, Windows Mobile or other handheld computer interact with the dxServer through a custom-designed “smart” application. The program is built around the task, allowing the device to become an extension of how mobile users work. It also frees the user from needed to be “online” to function. The application stores data, quietly synchronizing when a network is available. The dxServer allows project managers and desk-based users to work with the system using a custom-designed Web-based interface. It provides a way for users to share and process data while monitoring activities in the field. The design is tailored to provide users with the information they need in a clear and logical format. To afford our customers the greatest scalability, the dxServer can be deployed as a hosted system or installed on client servers. Hosted systems are based in a world-class datacenter with eight distributed locations. Maintenance, support and back-ups are included. Non-hosted systems are installed on clients servers; support and maintenance becomes an option. The dxServer has been designed to integrate with many back-end and ERP systems. It can also work with accounting packages and reporting tools such as Crystal Reports. Integrations can be made remotely with our hosted solution or done on a local server for non-hosted deployments. Together, the dxServer provides a strong solution to link your back office operations with your entire mobile workforce. To Capitalize or ExpenseThe cost effectiveness of SaaS.The concept of having a good defense as a good offense has been well adopted among many businesses during this economic panic. Companies have reduced, or in some cases, frozen their capital purchases for the first part of 2009. A good defense? Possibly. A long-term strategy? Not really. Businesses can forego capital expenses for only so long. At some point, may it be due to obsolesces or breakdown, equipment and systems will need to be replaced. Rather than wait for a crisis to motive your accounting department, SaaS provides an alternative approach. Rather than purchase a software package, you can “subscribe” to a solution. Once a system is deployed, fees for the system are accrued on an ongoing, monthly basis. The software system becomes an operational expense in lieu of a capital purchase. Avoiding acquisitions now may appear to be a good defensive strategy to ward off uncertainties, however, the risk is that you may be postponing the inevitable. Having a good defense may save some points, but a good offense wins games. |
