Despite the economic climate, this trend will not abate. In a recent study by the National Center for Health Statistics, 17.5% of all American households rely on their cellphones for their voice communication. Their data has been supported by other studies. Each year, 4% of U.S. households make the switch. Some hold the opinion that as the economy worsens, people will view traditional phone service as a luxury and be more likely to either go wireless or use cable. These trends are just the beginning. By 2012, 38% of households will have cut the cord. Have you positioned your business to take advantage of this trend? These trends did not happen overnight, nor will your ability to take advantage of this migration. Start planning today so that tomorrow you will be well position to go mobile. Looking AheadThe changing landscape in mobile technology.The economic slow down has not impeded the pace of technological change. In the coming months, many mobile device manufacturers will be releasing new devices and operating systems. Palm, long since considered distressed, will release a Linux-based OS in the first half of 2009. T-Mobile will introduce a new version of it’s Google phone. With its 480 by 800 resolution screen, HTC will begin shipping their Touch HD Windows Mobile-based PDA. Motorola will roll out a new durable PDA, the MC55. Apple will undoubtedly update the iPhone and it’s operating system. Some of these new devices will be embraced by the market; others will not.
